ABOUT ME

My name is Kate. I am a 30 year old British woman and I am living in Chennai for one year with my partner.

He is working as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Mathematics here in Chennai, hence our reason for being here.

I have traditionally worked in the Social Care Sector in England as a Manager, Counsellor and Project Worker. Client groups I have worked with include street homeless, mentally ill, substance misusers, young people and those experiencing bereavement.

Places I have lived in England: Newbury, London, Bristol and Sunderland.

Places I have lived worldwide: USA (Normal, Illinois), Australia (Perth, Melbourne, Sydney).

We moved to India in July 07 I am using this as an opportunity to try something different. Writing this blog is part of trying something different.

I regularly practice yoga, meditation and I love to go cycling and swimming. I follow the teachings of a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist teacher by the name of Thich Nhat Hanh. He promotes mindfulness as a way of life which encompasses what we do, what we buy and how we are with one another. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace prize and he is a great inspiration to me.

  1. Hi Kate, I am the Sangeetha who was part of the vigil-organising team. Though I couldn’t meet you the other day, it’s wonderful knowing you through your blog. To say that I am deeply influenced by Thich Nhat Hanh also should introduce me to you sufficiently enough for now! Hope to meet you and Nick sometime soon. 🙂

  2. Sangeetha,
I have checked out your blog and it seems we have a lot in common! It would be lovely to meet up with you and chat. NVQ, mindfulness and all.
Nick and I have started a meditation group in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, so if you’re interested perhaps you would like to join us?
    Kate
